Subject: Experiencing Problems When Installing Windows XP Service Pack 3 Onto a Standard HuskyPC?
If you are a UConn employee, who is experiencing problems when trying to install Windows XP Service Pack 3 onto your standard UConn Windows XP HuskyPC computer, please read on.
Unfortunately, there was an error discovered after the release of the standard XP image for production (see http://tss.uconn.edu/xpsp3.html for added technical details). These errors have resulted in the inability for an end user to download and install the XP Service Pack 3 upgrade. UITS has identified the computers impacted as those that either shipped from Dell with the XP image installed (since March 2008) or those UITS TSS reimaged (since November 2007).
To correct the problem, follow these steps:
- Click on the following link (
http://tss.uconn.edu/Public/xpsp3_fix.exe
), select the Run option, and follow the default prompts
- Step-by-step instructions are available on the UITS Technology Support Services web site.
- Once you have finished Item #1, re-boot the computer
- Then complete the process by visiting the Microsoft Update web site and install the remaining updates, which will include XP Service Pack 3.
If you have questions, please contact the UITS Help Center by telephoning 860.486.HELP (4357) or emailing helpcenter@uconn.edu.
